Known for his brilliance, Mike Rama graduated as class valedictorian form Basak Elementary School in Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City. He earned a pre-med degree from Velez College, and obtained his law degree from San Beda Collega in Manila. Rama passed the bar exam in 1983.
It was in 1992 that Rama started his political career, having been elected councilor of Cebu City, a position he served from 1992 to 2001. In his third term, Rama became the first councilor assume the role as acting vice mayor and even as acting mayor. Also, he became the national president of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL).
There was no stopping Rama at that point, and he served three consecutive terms as Cebu City vice mayor from 2001 to 2010, and served as national president of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VMLP).
After his successful stint as vice mayor, Rama won the race for Cebu City mayor in 2010, and was reelected in 2013.
In 2019, Rama was elected vice mayor of Cebu City, and following the death of then mayor and ally Edgardo Labella, he took his oath as mayor on November 20, 2021. In 2022, Rama was elected anew as Cebu City mayor.
