JOSE RIANO

Jose “Otik” Ruado Riano is the current Governor of Romblon, having been reelected to the position in the 2022 national election by garnering 59.25 percent of the votes in the island province.  

Gov. Riano was first elected as governor in the 2019 election by garnering 54.16 percent of the votes. Prior to getting elected as Governor, he served as Romblon’s Vice Governor for two terms from 2013 until 2019.  

He ran on a platform vowing to reduce hospital costs for senior citizens and indigent citizens; upgrade hospital facilities; increase the number of doctors and improve the quality of medical services; introduce new technologies for a better quality of education; construct new infrastructure; increase food production; and strengthen the tourism sector in Romblon. 

He was appointed by former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte as the Chairman of Regional Development Council-MIMAROPA in October 2019. Under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Riano was reappointed to the same position following the 2022 election. 

Gov. Riano is also the Vice President/Chairperson for External Affairs of the League of Provinces of the Philippines.
